What Are High CBD Products and When Should You Use Them?

It seems like CBD is everywhere these days. Since the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp cultivation, CBD-infused products have graced shelves from your local Maryland medical cannabis dispensary to convenience stores and beyond. CBD’s proponents claim that the compound has a variety of possible benefits. And in particular, some research suggests that high CBD products may indeed help medical patients. In this post, we’ll explore more about high CBD and why you may choose to use it.

What is CBD?

First, let’s go over exactly what CBD is. For those who are unfamiliar with CBD, it’s a member of the cannabinoid family of compounds. More than 100 cannabinoids exist in nature. They develop naturally in cannabis and hemp plants. In fact, CBD is the second-most abundant cannabinoid worldwide, behind only THC.

While cannabis garners a reputation for imparting users with feelings of euphoria during a psychedelic “high,” that’s not because of CBD. In fact, research shows that CBD has no psychoactive properties (again, that’s THC). Instead, CBD may offer several benefits for medical cannabis patients as well as the average person.

However, it’s important to know that while some research does support CBD’s beneficial role, the jury’s still out. The medical establishment has only recognized one benefit to CBD (more on that later), although both anecdotal evidence and research do suggest CBD’s positive properties exist.

Why do Products with High CBD Matter?

Okay, so we’ve mentioned that CBD may be able to help medical cannabis patients. Products that have particularly high levels of CBD have a few applications. They include:

  • Reducing Inflammation: one of CBD’s best-known traits. Research shows that CBD may be able to reduce inflammation throughout the body.
  • Soothing Pain: data suggests that CBD also may be able to reduce chronic and difficult-to-treat pain. Not only that, but humans have actually used CBD as a folk medicine to treat inflammation for nearly 5,000 years.
  • Improving Sleep and Easing Anxiety: researchers have suggested that CBD may be able to help users fall asleep faster and stay asleep throughout the night. What’s more, it could also ease stress and anxiety.
  • Epilepsy: while the American medical community hasn’t been able to come to a consensus on most of CBD’s benefits, many doctors agree on one application: CBD and epilepsy. In 2018, the FDA approved a CBD-based pharmaceutical to treat two different types of epilepsy.

An additional benefit of CBD is that for the vast majority of users, it doesn’t appear to have serious side effects. However, it’s important to remember that high CBD products can cause one unexpected reaction. They tend to make a user sleepy.

That’s to be expected when one of the main effects of CBD includes improving sleep onset and duration. But it’s also something important to keep in mind when choosing how and when to use a high CBD product. As a result, avoid high doses of CBD if you have any significant responsibilities, and especially if you need to drive.
